Origin

Sakura-iro is named for the petals of the somei-yoshino cherry, which bloom for only about a week each spring. That brevity made the color a stand-in for mono no aware — the wistful awareness of impermanence — in classical poetry from the Heian period onward.

Where you'll see it

Wedding stationery, spring confectionery packaging, kimono linings, seasonal cosmetics.
